Houston, TX — The Automotive Body Parts Association (ABPA) strongly supports the reintroduction of the “Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair” (REPAIR) Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to protect consumer rights by ensuring fair and open access to vehicle repair and maintenance data. The REPAIR Act will protect consumers’ rights to repair their vehicles while also ensuring the continued safe operation of the nation’s 292 million registered passenger and commercial motor vehicles, 70% of which are currently maintained by independent repair facilities.
The bill, introduced by Representatives Neal Dunn (R-FL-02), Brendan Boyle (D-PA-02), Warren Davidson (R-OH-08), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA-03), along with a growing list of bipartisan supporters, seeks to address the growing barriers faced by independent repair shops, parts manufacturers, and consumers due to restrictive manufacturer practices.
Why the REPAIR Act Matters:
Consumers increasingly face rising repair costs, fewer service options, and longer wait times due to automakers limiting access to diagnostic and repair data. Studies show that over 60% of independent repair facilities struggle with routine repairs due to manufacturer-imposed restrictions. The REPAIR Act will:
