GEICO’s Derrell Burgin Joins Plasnomic Plastic Repair Alliance Council

Appointment Strengthens Industry Alignment Around Repair-First Plastic Strategies

Chicago, IL — Plasnomic announced today that Derrell Burgin, Senior Director—Physical Damage Claims at GEICO, has joined its Plastic Repair Alliance Council.

“Derrell represents the leadership this industry needs right now,” said Mario Dimovski, the head of the Plastic Repair Alliance Council. “He understands plastic repair from the shop floor to the claims office. His experience strengthens our commitment to unify best practices, elevate technical education, and build a framework the entire industry can rely on.”

Burgin brings more than 35 years of experience in physical damage. He began his career as a collision repair technician before advancing to shop estimator and ultimately moved into executive leadership within GEICO’s Physical Damage department, where he has served for more than 27 years.

His career path, from hands-on repair to national claims leadership, has provided him a uniquely balanced perspective on both the operational realities inside repair facilities and the financial and structural demands of modern claims management.

Throughout his tenure at GEICO, Burgin has demonstrated a strong commitment to collaboration and innovation within an evolving industry landscape. He has also played a pivotal role in helping develop the foundations of GEICO’s catastrophe management response strategies, reinforcing his experience in building systems that respond effectively during times of complexity and scale.

Plasnomic said Burgin’s appointment comes at a critical time for the industry when plastic components—particularly polypropylene/EPDM bumper covers and headlamp assemblies—have become among the most frequently replaced and highest-cost items on modern claims.

Despite their prevalence, the collision ecosystem has historically lacked a centralized authority to define consistent best practices, create structured education pathways, and validate repair-first strategies supported by testing and compliance transparency.

Closing the critical gap in plastic repair

From the beginning, Plasnomic said its mission has been clear. “Plastic repair must move from an optional skill to a globally recognized discipline supported by standards, science, and accountability,” said Plasnomic representatives.

Since its inception, Plasnomic has accelerated the development of a global framework designed to become the industry’s independent authority and unified voice on automotive plastic repair.

With two Top Five United States insurance carriers now participating in the council, along with one of Europe’s largest, Plasnomic continues to build a layered global council structure uniting insurers, MSOs, technical authorities, and materials science leaders. This collaborative model ensures that plastic repair is guided by evidence, supported by technology, and advanced through shared responsibility.

Plasnomic is now moving beyond discussion and into implementation. By integrating expert consensus, laboratory-validated testing, digital compliance systems, and structured certification pathways, Plasnomic is working to transform plastic repair into a process that is predictable, measurable, defensible, and scalable. Rather than improving a technique, the goal is to redefine an industry segment.

By introducing intelligent software and mobile application solutions, Plasnomic is also working to establish itself as the central knowledge platform for plastic repair. These tools are being created to enable the industry to access guidance, verify compliance, track repair-first initiatives, and continuously strengthen shared expertise.

“Plasnomic is not simply participating in the evolution of collision repair,” said council representatives “It is building the foundation for how plastic repair will be defined, measured, and trusted worldwide.”
