In Memory of Charlie Hogarty

The Automotive Body Parts Association (ABPA) is saddened to share the passing of Charlie Hogarty, a pioneering figure in the aftermarket collision parts industry and a former ABPA Chairman whose impact continues to be felt today.

Charlie played an important leadership role during the early, formative years of the ABPA, helping to shape the direction of the association and strengthen its foundation at a critical time for the industry. His involvement reflected a deep commitment not only to the success of his own business, but to the advancement of the broader aftermarket community.

His career is closely tied to the growth and evolution of the aftermarket parts industry. Starting at a young age with Keystone Automotive when it was still a small bumper re-chroming operation, he rose through the organization to eventually serve as CEO. Under his leadership, the company expanded significantly, helping to build a national distribution network and playing a key role in establishing the aftermarket collision parts segment as a viable and competitive alternative in the marketplace. His tenure also included guiding the company through its transition to a publicly traded business.

Many within the ABPA will also remember Charlie’s wife, Marie, who was a familiar and welcome presence at association events over the years. Often considered the “first lady” of the ABPA during its earlier years, she was a meaningful part of the community that helped define the association’s culture.

Just as important as his professional accomplishments were the qualities he brought as a person. Charlie’s character—his integrity, humility, and respect for others—defined how he approached both business and relationships. His belief in putting people first, and business second, reflects the true ethos of the ABPA and remains a standard for all of us.

Charlie’s legacy is reflected not only in the companies he helped build, but in the broader aftermarket ecosystem and association he helped shape.

We will honor Charlie and his contributions at the upcoming ABPA Conference in Indian Wells.
