The Automotive Body Parts Association (ABPA) has released a new video highlighting key excerpts and findings from the research report, “Totaled: The Real Costs of Vehicle Loss,” authored by automotive industry researcher Dr. Blaire O’Neal.

The video was developed to further expand awareness surrounding the growing trend of vehicles being declared total losses following collisions that may have been repairable only a few years ago. Through a series of report excerpts and supporting insights, the video examines the economic and industry-wide factors contributing to rising total loss frequency and increasing vehicle repair costs.

The report explores how growing vehicle complexity, advanced technology systems, increasing parts and labor costs, and broader repair economics are affecting consumers, insurers, repairers, and the automotive aftermarket alike.

“Totaled” has continued generating discussion throughout the automotive and collision repair industries since its release, particularly as affordability concerns increasingly influence conversations surrounding vehicle ownership, insurance costs, and repairability.

The newly released video serves as an accessible companion piece to the full report and is intended to help broaden public understanding of the issues impacting today’s repair environment.

ABPA Executive Director Edward Salamy noted that the Association believes consumer education surrounding vehicle repair economics has never been more important.
