The Automotive Body Parts Association (ABPA) is proud to present “High Costs, Hard Hits: The Consumer Struggle with Rising Collision Repair Prices”, a comprehensive research report shedding light on the growing financial burden placed on American drivers due to soaring repair costs.
Conducted in collaboration with Depth Services, LLC, this report highlights the systemic challenges in the collision repair industry and their direct impact on consumers.
- Skyrocketing Repair Costs: Over 75% of surveyed drivers reported significant price increases in collision repair, often leading to financial hardship.
- Delays Due to Parts Availability: Nearly 44% of surveyed drivers faced prolonged repair delays due to parts shortages, leaving many without transportation for weeks or months.
- Financial and Emotional Toll: Many consumers are being forced to deplete savings, take on debt, or even delay critical repairs due to rising costs. Some reported losing jobs or experiencing severe financial hardship as a result.
- Strong Public Support for Legislative Action: 75% of surveyed drivers support Right to Repair legislation such as the REPAIR Act and SMART Act, which aim to restore balance and fairness in the auto repair market.
The report reinforces the ABPA’s advocacy efforts in promoting legislative solutions that encourage fair competition and protect consumer rights.
Policy proposals such as the REPAIR Act and SMART Act aim to level the playing field, allowing independent repair shops access to the parts and tools they need to compete — benefiting consumers through lower repair costs and more choices.
The findings of this report make it clear: consumers need access to affordable, high-quality replacement parts. The ABPA is committed to advocating for legislative and industry reforms that restore fairness to the market and provide relief to drivers nationwide.
