Starting in 2026, the U.S. Department of Commerce will implement a recurring process that could expand the list of automotive parts subject to Section 232 tariffs. This development is important for aftermarket distributors and importers, as parts added to the list may be difficult—or impossible—to remove later.
Key Dates
The first inclusion window opens January 1–14, 2026. Additional two-week windows will occur quarterly in January, April, July, and October, beginning on the first day of each month.
Requests for inclusion must be submitted electronically during the applicable window.
Public Comment Opportunity
After each window closes, accepted submissions will be posted on Regulations.gov for a two-week public comment period. This provides stakeholders an opportunity to review proposed additions and submit comments addressing market, supply chain, and consumer cost impacts.
Why This Matters to the Aftermarket
There is currently no clear process to remove parts from the Section 232 list once they are added. As a result, tariff inclusion could have long-term consequences for pricing, availability, and competition between OEM and aftermarket replacement parts.
ABPA Perspective
ABPA members should closely monitor each inclusion cycle and be prepared to participate in the public comment process if collision repair parts relevant to their businesses are proposed. The ABPA will continue tracking these developments and provide updates as additional guidance becomes available.
